How the calculation works

Below $120, commission is 6% of the base, with a $1.99 minimum. At $120 and above, the whole sale is charged at 9% — not just the amount over $120. That's a "whole amount" tier, not a marginal one: crossing the line changes the rate on the entire sale.

Because of that jump, there's a real dead zone just above $120: pricing at exactly $120.00 can net you less than pricing at $119.99, and you'd need to price noticeably higher than $120 before you're ahead of $119.99 again. This calculator will flag it if your price falls in that range.

Whether you use a Grailed shipping label changes the commission's base: with a Grailed label, commission is on the sale price alone; with your own shipping, it's on sale price plus buyer-paid shipping. Payment processing is not affected by this choice either way — its base is always sale price plus buyer-paid shipping plus tax.

Payment processing depends on two things: whether you're Stripe-onboarded, and whether the buyer is domestic (US) or international. Onboarded + domestic is the cheapest combination (3.49% + $0.49); not onboarded + international is the most expensive (5.49% + $0.99).

A real example

Take an $80 sale (below the $120 tier), Stripe onboarded, a domestic buyer, using a Grailed shipping label, with a $25 item cost and $7 in seller-paid shipping. Here's what Grailed actually takes and what you keep:

Frequently asked questions

Why would pricing at $120.00 net me less than $119.99?
Because the 9% rate at $120+ applies to the WHOLE sale, not just the amount above $120. $119.99 pays 6% of $119.99; $120.00 pays 9% of $120.00 — a bigger jump in fees than the one extra cent in price can make up for. Use the Target Price calculator to find where you actually come out ahead again.
Does using my own shipping instead of a Grailed label change my payment processing fee?
No. It changes the commission's base only. Payment processing is always calculated on sale price plus buyer-paid shipping plus tax, regardless of which shipping option you use.
What's the minimum commission on a small sale?
$1.99, if 6% of the base would otherwise come out lower than that. Above roughly $33, 6% already exceeds $1.99, so the minimum stops mattering.
