How the calculation works

Mercari charges a flat 10% seller fee on the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. If a buyer pays for shipping on top of your listed price, that shipping amount is part of what the 10% is calculated on, not just the item price alone.

There's no separate payment-processing fee added on top — the 10% seller fee is the only marketplace fee that comes out of your proceeds.

Buyers also pay a Buyer Protection Fee, but that's charged to the buyer, not deducted from what you receive as a seller — it isn't part of this calculation and shouldn't be double-counted against your payout.

A real example

Take an $80 sale with no buyer-paid shipping, a $25 item cost and $7 in seller-paid shipping. Here's what Mercari actually takes and what you keep:

Frequently asked questions

Does the 10% fee apply to shipping I pay for as the seller?
No — only to shipping the BUYER pays at checkout, if any. Shipping cost you pay out of pocket is a cost to you, not part of the fee base.
Is there a separate payment processing fee on Mercari?
No. The 10% seller fee is the only marketplace fee deducted from a seller's proceeds.
Why isn't Buyer Protection Fee subtracted from my payout here?
Because the buyer pays it, not you — it's added to what the buyer is charged at checkout, and never comes out of your seller proceeds.
